IT problems

Just to warn you in advance, this is going to be a negative post full of whining :D
This is about our lovely university IT facilities, rare are the days when I can easily find a computer to use when I have a couple of hours of break between lectures and after deciding to spend some time in the internet, whether to just surf or actually do some uni related work. Some pearls from the last couple of weeks then:

  • Last Monday the computer rooms were incredibly busy and after literally ten minutes of lurking in the library, finally managed to find a computer that was working and not in use. Started to log in. There are currently no log on servers to service the log on request. Da fak? Typed my credentials in five more times until the Welcome screen appeared. Hallelujah :D Took off my coat and stuff I needed to do. Again the previous message saying basically tüng värdjas! - I´m so sorry but translating that phrase would take away it's funny meaning :D so 30 tries, memorising the keyboard to enter my impossibru password, 3 Welcome screens later I gave up, muttered ugly words under my breath and stormed out to find the impossible, another free computer that freaking works! I did not succeed that day.
  • On Tuesdays I usually have a two hour break and since I want to eat something I go to the Rosser Lounge computer room, which is usually fairly empty at 11 o'clock. Well not last Tuesday. My favorite computer was taken (the only one with some privacy: screen to the wall, not that I'm doing anything embarrasing there, but still, the one that I can listen music with, because with other computers I can't find the one that is actually attached to the screen I'm using, thanks for making everything complicated). Sat down to another one, took ages to get the screen to light up but the keyboard wasn't working just awesome. What have I done to deserve this? Luckily the computer next to that one was free and working. Win! kind of :D
  • Talking about keyboards, certain letters on certain keyboards do not work and I always have to press them ten times to get the letter I want! People, just please, do not kill the keyboards! I once sat next to a boy who was practically raping the keyboard. I was scared that his fingers, which were moving with such force and speed would literally go through the keyboard and start hitting the table. Honestly I have never ever seen anyone typing like that. I'm not lying, at first I stopped everything I was doing and just looked at him for a minute with my jaw to the ground :D then I rolled my eyes saying OH MY GOD what is wrong with you in my head :D
  • At the start of this term we had to change our password, probably will have to do it every year. F-ing great! Coming up with the first one was a nightmare because it can't consist of any words in any language. Ok finally managed to get one that I can actually remember. Now the second one can't be too similar to the previous one + the other stupid rules. Tried changing it up in the library with the IT guy like 10 times when I gave up and said give me a random one for now, I'll change it at home! :D
  • Of course, after changing the password you can't connect to the university internet anymore, my transition was the easiest for some reason, it just asked me to put in my new credentials and register my laptop again. Ruby's laptop connected to the internet automatically but since the password changed she couldn't actually use it. Between the two of us we got it working. Yay :D Ems transition though was the worst :D LOL, because she went to the IT guy, who is usually very smart and able to help, but now for some reason failed to see the problem (even I knew how to fix it!), asking her if she remembered her password correctly and is she sure about it etc. YES for god's sake! And finally managed to connect her laptop to some guest network, whatever that is, and as far as I know, she still has problems with it occasionally.

I think that's it for now.
Ttyl ;)
Jazzz...
