5 star hotels

Continuing with Day 4:

Earliest start so far: be ready at 8.30. Torture ;) Did I mention before that we have to take care of our nutrition ourselves. Anyway, went to see the oldest building in the world! Hagar Qim! It is not exactly sure or known what the building was for. Maybe used as an astronomical calendar, since certain tunnels? corridors? are lit up when the Sun is in certain positions. It marks:
(1) the major standstill of the Moon in Summer through the front doorway;
(2) the major standstill in Winter through the back doorway;
(3) the setting of the Equinox Sun;
(4) the setting of the Summer Solstice Sun from the High Chapel; and
(5) the rising of the Sun at the Winter Solstice from the opposite direction through a window in the front wall of the temple.

All of that is previously illustrated and explained in the museum before entering the temple sites. The museum is modern and interactive, making people more interested and involved with the temple. It shows how they used to move the big boulders and let you decide which way is easier: push them on round rocks or square ones. You can step through a doorway that is designed just as it is in use in the temple - it's small! For kids there's an activity room where they can play with clay and stack boulders.

The pearl of the trip came when we did a group picture in front of the temple and it came from one of our lecturers taking the picture: "At least pretend you like each other!" LOL :D Omfg is it really that obvious? The feud between the Brits and Others :D :D Haha. I blame the Brits ;)

Next we entered a completely different world: 5 star hotels. Starting with The Hilton at St. Julians. Wow. This is the first time I've ever actually entered a 5 star hotel lobby or actually even been close to one. And it is impressive. We were the first group (our lecturers have done the trip for many years) who actually got a full tour and introduction of it. The memory I'll cherish forever, especially when staying at cheap hotels :D Just a little overview of the life you wish you had when on holiday ;) 5 pools! I'll say that again, 5 pools (and they looked amazing, I wanted to jump in!). The hotel is really pretty and decorated and fancy. In the lobby there were jewellery boutiques. The restaurants looked amazing: obviously way out of my league (at the moment, but I will get there! :D ). The HR director gave us a little presentation about their employment opportunities and hotel. Currently they employ about 40 students who are on internships there. So if you want to work for Hilton keep this in mind when applying! They look for attitude, personality, ambition and willingness to go the extra mile foremost. You must have a tangible goal set out because it shows your commitment. It is also good if you have read up on current industry trends. And the application for the summer ends in January. Usually they have special partnerships with different universities from where they're applicants come from - more trustworthy but independent applications are also welcome. So shall we start applying? Next year that is :( But you have to keep in mind that they are not the highest salary providers, though they have many other good benefits to compensate that and the employees really looked happy and not in a fake smile way but actually smiling sincerely. Another fun fact though: their main competitors are other countries in the Mediterranean, Hotel brand competition is second to that.

After that we visited the Xara palace in Mdina. The Xara palace is the real luxury hotel, being one of the 500 Relais & Chateaux hotels in the world. To those of you who do not know what that means: Relais & Chateaux is a renowned reference of excellence in the hotel and restaurant world. The Association's mission is to spread its unique art de vivre across the globe by selecting outstanding properties with a truly unique character. So whenever you see that association's name you can be sure that the establishment is one of the world's finest without a doubt. ( Now I'm on their website deciding if I could have a chance to work for them :D)

At that hotel we saw 5 different rooms and when I say different I really mean different. They all had different designing, colour scheme. The furniture was specially made and antique. The rooms were quite small but due to the high ceilings of the building they fitted two levels in one room ( lounge on the ground floor and bedroom upstairs, though it was initially built as one room, so the second level just hung from the ceiling). Since they were quite small rooms it was dark in them too. Really different from everything else I've seen. The definition of luxury peut-etre? Did I tell you that Jennifer Aniston and Sharon Stone have stayed there? Omg I've been to the same place as Jennifer Aniston!!!! From a couple of the rooms you could see a breathtaking view to Malta's landscape. An interesting fact: since all the rooms are different from each other they are in competition too. People want to book a certain room. The overall atmosphere was romantic in my opinion :) I really liked it and since it is not for the masses (like Hilton is) makes it even more special :)

Next a small walk through the silent city that is Mdina. Ironically when our lecturers started explaining how silent it really is the cathedral bells started ringing. Very very loudly for a good 5 minutes. When they finally stopped the lecturer continued "As I was saying, this is the silent city" :D Yeah right :D But yeah actually you can't see many people walking around there, looks a bit deserted but from my tourist perspective it is actually better to wander around and take pictures without having random people on your pictures later etc :D I like it more than masses on the streets.

Apparently we had been so loud that the maintenance guy, who looked after the boats had to yell at us "lower your voices!" oops :D I guess rich people need their silence :D It didn't stop us from taking pictures with the yachts though :D

A view to the place the previous photo was taken from.
This is from in front of the Hilton.

I tried to capture the two levels of the rooms
I was half way out the door in order to take this pic.

What would you like for breakfast?

Look I found my favourite flower!

There was also a modern gym.
I just like this picture so much :D

In the silent city obviously.

77th with a bang!

Day 3 of my trip:

Today is the day we visit the capital of Malta which is ...? Oh come on you must know this! ;) Yeah, tatatadaaa Valletta :D Btw it's my birthday :) Yay, happy birthday to me! :D Rebecca even gave me a gift - liqueur chocolate candies from Estonia :) mmmm... liqueur.... :D ;)

Anyway... the first stop was the Research Unit, Malta Tourism Authority, where we were given a presentation about tourism in Malta. Did you know that:
  • The average tourist who visits Malta is a 58 year old retired Brit who travels with their partner? And on in every three tourists have been in Malta before. Well my boss, who exclaimed "Why on earth would you go to Malta - it's for old people!?", makes more sense now :D He said it prior to my departure, obviously.
  • 2012 was a record year for inbound tourism, mainly because of multiple air routes becoming available and a lot of them by low-cost airlines. In total, 81 routes between Malta and the world. Low-cost airlines generated 36,4% of tourists
  • The average stay was 8,7 nights. I think it's a long stay, don't you agree?
  • Foreign tourists visit Gozo for a day but the Maltese stay for longer.
  • They are still looking for their brand image that would make them stand out from the competitors: Italy, Greece, Egypt etc.
  • During the summer high season there are about three tourists per a resident
After that we went to explore Valletta and the first attraction were the Barrakka gardens where we saw a breathtaking view of the three cities and a demonstration of cannon firing was held. It was actually better than I had expected since besides the loud bang you could also see the flame and smoke coming out of the cannon. WoW :)

While in Valletta you must see the Malta Experience which is a film that tells the story of Malta. Did you know that during World War 2 Valletta was heavily bombed and people had to basically live underground and without any external help (food, supplies etc) because the ships that were sent to help them got raided on the sea and never made it to Malta. And because they were so brave and did not surrender, King George VI awarded the entire Maltese population with the George Cross - the first (of only two) given as a collective award and not to just one person.

The Malta Experience is a film showed in an underground cinema, cool! :) You have your own set of headphones and you can choose from about 20 different languages to best comprehend and understand the story :) Unfortunately Estonian wasn't amongst them :( Finnish was though...

2 hours of free time to spend in Valletta now :) Our main mission was to find somewhere to eat :D and we did, eventually. But!... it was kinda crap and expensive! :( no one liked their food (mostly we ordered different pasta dishes). Though a polish girl was very content with her glass of wine! ( ;) liqueur ;) ). Then we spent some time just walking on the streets and it is a really nice and interesting city with it's levels. I really liked it. Though I wouldn't say I fell in love with it because I think I didn't really have time to fully explore and appreciate it - the downside of being in a group: you can't decide where to go and how long to stay in one place...

Then we got back on the mini-buses and were driven through the area where illegal immigrants live. Beforehand the lecturers told us not to worry no harm is going to come to us and no one will attack the mini buses and so on. I was like the heck?! Are they murdering people on the street or what? When we got there (there is always the morale issue: is it actually respectable to drive in that area and look out the windows like oooh and aaah, but it's for educational purposes) it didn't actually look that bad, I was expecting something much worse. Shabby looking houses, because no one renovated them obviously, men just hanging around the street, waiting for any job opportunities. I would say that it did not look much worse than a certain part of a certain city if I remember it correctly... By the way there are more male immigrants than female because it is easier for men to find some job and send money home than women.

In the evening there was a de-briefing and at some point I drifted off, writing some notes and suddenly heard silence... Oh snap, he asked a question... Fudge, I know he's going to ask me... Oh no, please no, I didn't hear the question "Jaanika?" WHY? WHY? WHY? why now? just my freaking murphy law luck... So asked sorry, what was the question and Rebecca started laughing out loud! The heck - be supportive!!!! It's embarrassing enough! Later she told me that the reason behind her laughter was the fact that she hadn't heard the question either :D

After being divide into the same groups as we had the day before and having to come up with a research question ( the presentation of the research is almost half of our mark for that module) and answer all the explanatory questions like why and what and who, and just before we could go back to our rooms and do whatever, the lights went off and everyone started singing Happy Birthday to me :) I think I had the biggest smile on my face :D They had bought a cake and candles ( that said 77 because apparently they were the only numbered-candles left in the shop OR he just did not know how old I am and bought those to hide it while being funny :D and it was fun :) )

Later the (polish) girls came down to the basement that is our room to celebrate with me :) I haven't laughed so hard in ages. It truly was fun :) Then all of a sudden a weird noise: like someone banging on the glass windows or heavy rain pouring straight on them, was behind our kitchen door to the terrace and since it was pitch dark outside we didn't see anything and one girl reaction was priceless: she really freaked out - she was sitting closest to the door. And she started screaming that loud and running away that everyone else started screaming and panicked as well though no one knew what was happening. Oh my god!!! I can't even describe it: it was so terrifying but funny at the same time. Btw I ran away from the door as well and when it stopped was hiding behind other girls who were sitting on the other side of the table (away from the door), and saw THE girl basically on top of Rebecca with Rebecca grasping her legs, both terrified and screaming. I was shaking for hours after that :D Although we all had a good laugh about it later and we suspect the boys, who shared a terrace with us and had the room next door and we saw one of the brit girls on the stairs with a suspicious smirk on her face! I hate them even more now! :D But since I really can't just shake those things off, I even had a mini-nightmare about it and woke up half screaming with my hands up punching the air. Woke Rebecca up :D Oops :D Funny times :D

Oops, I forgot pictures at first :D

Playlist

So, it's my turn to create the playlist, but tbh, I have no songs what so ever in my mind, but we'll see, how it turns up in the end...

A song that I had in my head yesterday, don't even know why, because can't remember hearing it lately

Have listened that one over and over again for the past few days while enjoying the empty flat.

Something different :)

How could I forget that song :D

And one song in Estonian to finish it off :)

Bugibba

So continuing with the second day :)

Arrived at the hotel late at night. We have 2 rooms for 4 people + bathroom and a kitchen, where's a sofa and a little terrace, quite big actually. I shared a room with Rebecca, the other room was occupied by the Lithuanian chicka and Polish girl who actually is on an Erasmus year but was allowed to come to the trip with us. She'd gotten there earlier during the day and when we arrived she was sleeping, so we rudely woke her up. Sorry... :D Didn't get much sleep during the first night because the excitement finally kicked in. Did I mention that when we left the airport the air was nice and warm :) you know the late night warm summer feeling right? Awesome :)

Had to be ready at 9AM. So the first early morning start I've had in ages. Our first task was to discover Bugibba, the town we were staying at. It's supposed to be a tourism resort, but looked a bit shady and run down... not the prettiest but still, palm trees!! It's the first time I've ever been to warm country and palm trees are as common there as birches in Estonia. Wow. We were given a task to find certain things and were randomly put into groups of three, people were not happy about that since there's kinda three groups amongst our 18 people: the Brits, the eastern Europeans and the Asians (who keep mostly to themselves but are nice to everyone) the first two get along but there is some tension between us :D we do not really communicate with each other, at all... and well we have our own opinions about each other, if you know what I mean ;) So there was a lot of whining about that. Mostly from the Brits, like little kids that are being torn apart from they're loved ones. There're 5 girls in that group and as the rooms have 4 beds in them one of them had to share a room with other people than they're click and they actually wanted to move the fifth bed to their room. What the hell??? Are you serious? You do realize that you do not have to spend every minute in that room and can go visit others if you want to? What huge difference does it make where you sleep? And apparently during the first task when groups ran into each other, they were the ones who started complaining to each other how alone they feel and how tired they are and how they wish they could be in the same group etc. Our group had difficulty finding the meet up point but luckily saw our lecturers and ran after them. Phew! We wouldn't have found the place on our own!

The wind made it so cold! A lot colder than it looked and previously thought :( I didn't really bring any warm clothes... Walking through the town we noticed that there's a lot more Italian cuisine restaurants than Maltese one's, hmmmm... interesting... although a lot of the restaurants had a Maltese section in their menus but it wasn't advertised hugely on their signs etc. Another shock was to see Arriva buses driving around. The heck?? Why is Arriva here? Do anyone who do not know Arriva provides transport in Wales also, and people are not quite happy with their service as I've heard (I only take the train as I walk everywhere in town). The old buses had been legendary though, they were yellow and really polluting :D had like a retro sense in them but were not compatible with the EU standards so they had to be taken off and Arriva green buses replaced them. You could still see them on postcards. To cater for the elderly market, Bugibba has a lot of seating on the promenade and square. What is somewhat surprising to a person who is not familiar with Malta at all is that there is practically no sandy beaches :( they've tried creating man-made ones but they are full of bacteria as the sea water can't wash them, meh... Btw all the litter that the Maltese make is being shipped out from the island because they do not have any room for it.

In the evening we had an external lecturer from the University of Malta who told us about Valletta's architecture and urban planning. Did you know the oldest baroque theatre in Europe that is still in use is in Valletta? It is a fortified city built on  a natural harbour. Valletta is described by contrasts: light versus shade, land versus sea and urban space versus peaceful places. And of course we learned quite a lot from the tourism management perspective that I'm not going to write here as it may not be as interesting to everyone :D

I'm sure we did something else during that day, those two things couldn't have taken the whole day... especially with a 9AM start... Bizarre :D

It's not a holiday!

As you may or may not know, I'm away from the lovely lovely Aberystwyth for the week. "It's not a holiday!!!!!" as the lecturers keep saying, yes the lecturers because I'm on a study trip: International Tourism in Practice, in MALTA!
and as I don't have access to the internet all the time, I post whenever I can but will summarize each day.

Day numero uno:

Finished my assignment early in the morning, printed it out at 3AM and submitted it electronically as well. Did my packing and went to bed to wake up at around 9 do finalize the packing and freak out and all that usual stuff you do before a trip. Quarter past 10 I started walking up the hill, with a small, hand-luggage size suitcase, so not too much effort :) Handed the hardback copy of my assignment in and let the "It's not a holiday!" begin :) With three hours in a coach on those awful welsh roads... Oh god please do not make me sick!!! And yay, I survived!

A little tour in the Manchester airport that really made me realize that there is so much more to airports than just flying :D It is like it's own little community, which is really cool and interesting, like how they worry about good reputation regarding to polluting the environment, different security measures, how one stupid and at a first glance quite insignificant employee may ruin the smooth operation of an entire terminal, like losing every passenger's luggage... Did they get fired? :D

Finally time to check-in for our flight, we were flying with Air Malta, a "proper' airline :D compared to the usual Ryanair and EasyJet... But I've never been so unhappy and annoyed with an airline ever. The check-in process was horrible mainly because they had overbooked, I think it took us nearly an hour to get us all checked in, in the middle of our group the check-in was closed and they had to wait a long time to get it open again... -.- One team member tried to serve three people at once, making a huge mess that resulted in everyone having to wait longer, just deal with one person at (oh god I already finished this post, but it didn't tell me that my internet allowance ran out... so I have to write this part again... why????) a time :D I wonder if someone was left behind...(not from our group)

We were the only flight in that terminal and it was really bizarre walking round the basically empty terminal... like you were in a movie or doing something illegal :D But yet again, seeing the airport from a different light :)

I got to seat next to the emergency exit, so sooo much leg space :) Me likey :) Me likey very-very much :D Why have I not sat there before????? OOOOh and the food! It was so good! Mashed potatoes, green peas and carrots and chicken fillet :) I'm in heaven :D The girl sitting next to me said that this one was even better than the meal she had while flying to Cuba... and our flight only lasted for three hours. I slept most of the flight :) And I didn't mention it before, TV's on the plane, showing where we are on the map all the time and what time it is and how high up we are... high-tech :D Feels so fancy compared to RyanAir :D

Arrived in Malta around 11pm and had to wait for our luggage, haven't done that in two years :D Now I'm a proper flier again :D Then got in the minibuses and headed towards our hotel :) Malta seems nice :)

(I think the original post was a bit longer, but my arms are already tired of typing :D so bye-bye and soooori)

Keep a look out for the next post, can't predict when I will be able to post it though :(

Another day in paradise

or maybe the first one, tomorrow will hopefully be another.

We have a crappy weather here, so windy, that I'm surprised if I still have windows in the morning, not just a hole in the wall (I envy Jazz, who is under the sun, getting a tan, while I'm under my duvet and still cold).
Anyhow, why paradise? Today was the first day, when I didn't have to do anything, like nothing at all, and boy, I enjoy those days (although, I'm kinda getting bored already, but that is mostly because my crappy internet, which won't let me watch my TV shows :/).
So as I didn't have to do anything, I ended up going to our Polly shops, just to find the dress from the picture they posted on Facebook, and well, I know, I was bad, for spending money, but I bought the dress, because it looks soooo nice, and as I didn't have anyone to take with me (thanks Jazz, for being away, when I need you, first this and then you are not here, so that I could get some green clothes from you to wear at work for some charity event) I had to ask the shop assistant how it looks on me, the thing I hate doing, because I really think that they usually try to convince people to make a purchase. But she was lovely and hopefully didn't lie :D Now I just need an occasion where I could wear that dress, as it's quite fancy, at least Liz promised to organize a party, if I buy this, or my dear le bf should take me out to celebrate our 6 months anniversary, not gonna hold my breath for the last one tho.
So after the Pollies, came back home, to warm up under the duvet again, did notning, and then finally went to store to get some food, in order to recreate my favourit baguette (bacon, mayo, tomato and egg) from our Art's Centre, yum, good food.
So now some more TV shows and sleepy time :P

A good or bad day??

Woke up quite early today - 10.30 :D so so early for me!! ;) This essay is having a positive effect on me.
Firstly went to town to buy some empty travel bottles and two pairs of trainers (only eight quid!) for my upcoming trip. Look out for the entry under stupidos turistos label in about a week and a half ;)

First stop the atm I need to take money out just in case savers or poundland has a card limit (to those of you who do not know what the hell that means - you have to spend a certain amount of money to be able to pay by card - stupid in my opinion). So automatically typed my PIN in, chose to take out 10 pounds in cash, got my card and went to the shoe store. Tried on shoes a size smaller than mine. They fit just fine! YAY (obviously they did not have my size) and went to pay for them... Had a look in my purse and guess what I didn't see, yeah you guessed right: the £10 note that I previously had taken out... FUDGE FUDGE FUDGE!!!! That's karma, B! I have to mention that Wednesday I found £10 laying on the ground, so technically I'm even :( But still!!! Why do I have to be so absent-minded??  To make matters worse savers didn't have the travel bottles I was looking for, to the slightly more expensive superdrug then... They had them. (it was surprisingly fun to put my shampoo and shower gel into them later :D like I always say, it's the small things that make me happy :D so if you ever need to fill those little bottles please please please let me do it ;) )

Had 2 lectures today and got my french test back with a wicked result... ouyeah I still have it in me :D it made me especially happy to see that the previously advanced students next to me had lower marks... (sorry for being mean, but that's just the way I am so deal with it!). Stayed in the computer room after the lecture (the one that only language students know about ;) but thankfully it wasn't completely empty : two other students were there, it just creeps me out being there alone, like it's forbidden or something but actually it's a nice alternative to the usually full library computer rooms) and wrote another 700 words of my essay. Yippikayay :) And I still have two days left before the deadline, you just can not imagine how proud I am of myself at the moment :D

I even managed to watch an episode of The Vampire Diaries and two episodes of Home and Away. What a productive day! (not sarcasm) Even hoovered my room :D At eight o'clock I was torn, since I had been invited to a birthday, but since it was the last free evening before the deadline and the party was up the hill, I decided to ask if Rebecka is going (she's doing the same course as me and is struggling with the same essay) and if she was going to go then I would join her but she wasn't really keen on going so I said that ok I won't go either. After that she revealed that if I had gone she would've gone with me :D lol we made a compromise to not go then.

And here I am, yet another Friday night in the 24h computer room in my pjs, lol that's the way I roll! My current word count is 1 541 and I plan on finishing it tomorrow, chose the articles and main points for the third part today as well, so all that's left to do is write the damn thing and put all the references in order and tables - I must include tables -.- I hate tables! But all in all it looks that I might even have a good night sleep on the night before the deadline - a first during my university time :D

Still wish me luck though!
Jazzz...

PS! forgot to mention that my laptop had major difficulties in connecting to the wi-fi again -.- no surprise there and forced me to restart it, and guess what omfg! The screen started fully working again! Just like that, out of the blue after several weeks of only having 2/3 of the screen actually working (1/3 was just black) :D So happy :D Once again I have normal laptop :)

Double standards

Shame on me for not having posted for so long, but I always think that I don't have anything so interesting going on to write a post.
Basically is my life pretty much like Jazz's, have to write my online seminar post and essay on top, which is due to on Monday, so even worse than Jazz's, but have I done anything, no, oops.

But what I really wanted to write about is my last night with my dear le bf. We were planning to watch master chef, but his laptop crashed, so he restarted it and it took soooo long, god knows how old his laptop is, for taking so long :D So I don't even know why, but while waiting he asked what my password for my laptop is, and I told like it is, that it is a place related to one guy. Which led us to a discussion, that if he would have a password related to another woman, I would be upset. And all the things he has done, not to make me upset etc, but I'm with him and have a password, that reminds me another guy, well, in my defence, I see it only as a password, yes at that time, it was a reminder of this guy, and still is, but I don't smile or think aww in my head, when I type it in, like he said, that you think about this person when you remember the password, well, I don't,  it's just a good word to have, I have different versions of that in many accounts and changing all the passwords just because I'm with someone seems pointless. But like he said, if he would have password related to someone else, I would get upset, which is why, when we got together, he changed his passsword from something related to Jazz (yes, you, and apparently it was a very good one, but he still changed it) to something that reminds him me. So in his opinion I have double standards, just because I can have a password like that, but I would be upset, if he would have one, although, it's a password, not meant to be shared, so how would I know in the first place. So the conclusion of the night: it seems like I pretty much ruined Jazz's and my bf's friendship, bcs they had such a good laugh before, and then I came along, well, I'm so sorry, wasn't planning to ruin anything and of course, I have double standards and in his opinion what we have is not special enough for me to change my passwords, thanks. Oh, and when I asked what was that special thing between him and my best friend, then it suddenly was nothing, didn't matter and so on, yet, he told we shouldn't be secretive, but said that she won't tell me, bcs it was nothing, well, if it was nothing, then what's the problem with just saying it out?

Last minute

My favorite and most hated time to do stuff. I just can't help it, I am really struggling to find motivations to do my essays or applications etc. before the deadline comes. I have tried, trust me, done some reading and research before-hand but without the pressure of the deadline being so close I soon find other, more interesting stuff to do, like writing a blog about writing an essay or just waste time watching sitcoms or mindlessly watching youtube videos of the stupidest things ever... Fun right? Who needs an university degree anyway? Not me apparently...

So my 2500 word essay's deadline is 3pm Tuesday and it's mainly a literature review. 2500!!! So many words!!! I've now gotten to the point where I've done my background research and bookmarked like ten or so articles (didn't bother to read them through yet - it'll be the murder of me I'm sure) and now all that's left to do is write the damn thing. Easy right? Guess again... I haven't even come up with a proper title... But I have an honorable mission to write at least 500 words today - introduction - yes I am the freak who does the introduction first not last as it should be done. Whatever I'm unique and weird don't even try to tell me that it is smarter to leave the introduction last - I know that already! And choose to ignore it (maybe that;s the reason I do not get firsts on my essays) you have to live dangerously right? ;)

Wish me luck! :)

I belong

I've been accepted to the small weird community in the middle of nowhere where I live :) At least I feel like it and that's what counts the most ;)

The locals are just creepy and cringe-worthy and just blatantly weird or aaaargh stay the hell away from me - first impressions that sadly still are true for some of them (I'm talking about the drunkards who smell), but the rest are actually really cool and bring a smile to my face oh it's him/her again :) At work that is :D

  • I still do not really talk to them :D just say Hi, how are you, then when sometimes they have something to say, I listen while serving them on the till and make a sound and a face that mimics theirs because 85% of the time I do not really understand what they say because I do not pay attention :D
  • I've managed to teach some of them how to say Hello in Estonian, btw as I recently learned it means 'come here' in Welsh and you'd say that to a dog -.- Thanks for shitting all over my language.
  • One guy (old man) actually said that when someone asks him who he's doing he replies with: ' Rather good, I get money from an Estonian girl each week so life's pretty good' LOL really? just to clear things up, I do not give him money, I just pay out his pension or whatevs, 'cause we do that in food shops here in Britain
  • I've been hugged by three customers (old men)... talk about awkward - I do not hug them back, just stand there awkwardly and walk away with rolling my eyes like wtf just happened??? - they do not see it of course ;)
  • When I went back home for two weeks during Christmas some customers had actually asked where I'd disappeared to and said that they like me... Awwwww... I like you too! (maybe, I do not know who they are, if they are the creepy drunkards then NO).
  • They actually notice when I'm working more than my regular hours. In the summer some people asked me if I have a life outside the shop at all because I was always there and now that I did two weeks of 39 hours one guy yet again asked if I even go to a university because I'm always in the shop when he comes in :D Well.... welcome to my sad-sad life and thanks for pointing out that sadness.
  • Once I had a discussion about where the word vodka comes from and surprised that old man when I said I already knew it comes from the Russian word for water. ' HOW DID YOU KNOW?' LOL, well common sense, if you know what I mean ;)
  • A couple of days ago two guys (young ones this time, even I get lucky once in a while ;) ) came in with some toys :D that allowed them to see over the shelves to the next aisle, it was soooooo funny to watch :D like little boys :D and they were so happy! When they came to purchase something they were all cheery and said my name in their greeting awwww... you made an effort :D lol they literally made my day.
  • One guy (regular customer, a young man) bought some tobacco and we had chocolate shortcakes next to the till, he was looking at them and saying how tasty they are etc. but still hesitantly stated that he will not buy them and when I asked if he's sure because it is only a pound he literally started running away screaming nooooo don't tempt me! :D
  • I once saw a regular customer at a different shop, when I was shopping for food as well, made small talk and then he asked me where something is and I'm like how the f should I know??? I do not work here. LOL pointed in some direction and hoped it was right (as I usually do) and ran away :D

That's the little things that make me happy at work :D amongst others :D
I just have to mention how Emma maliciously made me fall down on my bum and nearly broke ten vodka bottles - it was hilarious :D Luckily it was in a camera blindspot - I checked later, you can only see Emma opening the door that I was leaning on and then stopping, bending down (to see if I'm okay since I fell on the floor). The other camera just shows my leg stretching suddenly and bottles falling but no one will notice unless they're specifically looking for it. No harm done, I didn't even get hurt at all and all the bottles were fine, so when Emma went to serve the customer waiting I just died of laughter under the tills, wondering if the customer had noticed or heard me scream out WHYYYYY???? Did I scream I out loud or just in my head? I do not know....

FOOD

Last Sunday (yes I do know that I'm a bit behind in writing these entries) was Estonia's birthday also known as the Independence Day. YAY we're 95 years old!!! :) The local Estonians here in Aber decided to make a traditional Estonian feast and party in honor of it Saturday evening. Unfortunately me and Emma were both working and couldn't attend the entire party. Bummer, we missed all that delicious food! Yeap food is my main concern. To be honest I do not really know how i survive here, haven't cooked a proper meal for myself in ages. Ready meals ftw! Maybe that's why my immune system isn't as strong as it was before, I'm simply not getting all the necessary vitamins to fight the common flu :(

Anyway, Ems got a text after work that the party people are still in the cafe and would be there for at least another hour. Food time :D So we decided to join - before that obviously went home to change. Arrived there like half past eleven and saw that they're cleaning. -.- That means no food :( I was gutted. We decided to walk in and greet everybody since we were there already and the first thing Ruby said to me was that if I please could take all the leftovers back to my fridge since I live opposite the cafe. Oh yeah of course epic win :D Haven't had a decent potato salad since forever and now I have two :D Me and Ems grabbed both of the salads and made our escape to my place where we decided to watch the Estonian Eurovision semi-finals that were on the same day. Felt like home :)

BUT, I still have half a bowl of that salad left :D HAHA and I've gotten so sick of it already :D everyday I'm eating it! :P LOL

Basically the conclusion of the party for me and Ems: walk in late say Hi to some people, grab the food and go home with it :) Or am I the only one finding it funny? :D ;)
