MLB Winter

A mixed bag really

Starting with the Christmas box which was great, especially the Tadaaaa! sticker :)
AAaaaand the slated caramel spread! Which reminds me, Must. Get. More!!! It was yummi with pancakes :)

Other items included:

  • Forest scented candle (my glass jar was broken... so not lit yet)
  • A bracelet (cuff bangle), quite nice
  • Hyperbole mini perfume which smells divine
  • smoky eyes eye shadow
  • Kusmi tea box
  • last magazine
  • Amande shower oil

January was totally different and came in a bag instead of a box

Best part must be the snood... I was on the lookout for another scarf

  • Fresh start means no magazine any more
  • A timeless planner notebook, which would be awesome if I'd actually use them... I looooove the idea of it but can't just bring myself to commit to filling in a notebook...
  • Body cream
  • A hair mask shot by Garnier
  • Toothpaste (perfect size for our trip to Iceland)
  • Helpful notes about creating vision boards and planning (must say I totally forgot about them...), not into any of that at all...
  • A hand cream

February seems a bit niche... and not mine (school skiing horrors possibly), I was expecting something red, Valentine, love related but got mountains... Well the lip balm is red..

Best part: Mountain shaped post-it notes

Others:
  • Get cosy book to replace the magazine
  • Sparkly socks
  • Brooche (that I'm never going to wear ever)
  • Lip balm (that makes your lips red)
  • Pore corrector
  • Roll on eye energiser
  • A needle hook and pattern to knit my own snood... no thanks, already got one-ish from school..

Teeny tiny samples

Overall verdict: last year finished with a bang but this year hasn't really been up to scrap..

Counterproductive

Is apparently who I am :D

And this comes from two guys in their thirties... I admit I was upset at first but dude come on... the more I thought about it I realised the whole situation was like playground bullying not a professional environment. Especially when I asked for an explanation from one of them (the other not important at all anyway), he couldn't give me any. Apparently everything I did was right but the staff just don't like me so they complained... :S

Lazy (ok so maybe I wasn't too sure what to do exactly in a new place but when I asked the other guy the answer was: "Fridays are quiet anyway", thanks for the informative answer)
Bossy (can't really argue with that one :D but that means that they themselves didn't want to do anything extra either)
And finally Counterproductive :) I know exactly where that came from but they'll never ever admit it. Because when it comes down to it I didn't do anything wrong :) I just did things slightly differently than they are used to...

This all happened 3 days in :) THREE DAYS! :D

––––––––––––––––––

Now I'll take you back a couple of months when I finally got rid of that awful polish woman... She smelt of weed one day when coming to work... At first I panicked, what to I do omg, thought I'd leave it (obvs made a stern comment that never is this ok under any circumstances) but the smell just wouldn't go away. Even after 2h... means she had something in her bag... Lord help me... I didn't do a bag search but should've and that's why it dragged for about 2 weeks (paid suspension for her) and her faith was uncertain. I think I actually prayed for her to get fired.

Luckily for me she came in one day and told all the staff why she couldn't come to work at the moment and one of them piped up and said she had come to the shop completely high one day and even made a comment about it... We have microphones in the ceiling :) and that was a couple of hours before her  shift that day... so a pattern... Not so innocent anymore.

And yes all ended well (for me) and she quit... a couple of months later heard that she basically disappeared and left behind a pile of debt (rent, council tax) that her former flatmates now have to pay for... What a lovely lovely person :)

Iceland

I've never actually thought much of Iceland and when Mr. Special first mentioned we should go there I was a bit dubious, what's there to do? Especially during winter.... COLD! I'm not really a fan of cold, not to mention I haven't owned decent pair of boots or winter coat for years... And now we're going to officially the coldest capital in the world...

Also the oddest thing happened, one evening there was a proper snowstorm, you couldn't really see anything in front of you, but the next morning ALL the snow was gone, literally everything melted overnight! I've never seen anything like it. There's always a pile of snow somewhere that takes ages to melt etc but no not in Iceland! So weather wise we got kind of both proper winter and a glimpse of what the landscape looks like in the summer.

Reykjavik has a really nice small town feel to it and you can walk everywhere within the city limits :) We accidentally stumbled upon the Harpa building and spontaneously decided to check the inside of the building out as well and I'm so glad we did because we happened to be there just for the start of a free concert from the Oxford University's choir. (they were performing in the Hallgrimskirkja the next evening for a fee).

Harpa building inside

There are tons of souvenir shops all around, basically every other shop is selling souvenirs. Also you'll see loads of excursion minibuses driving around because nearly every tour you book comes and picks you up from your hotel! Super stressfree and comfortable (unless they forget about you). But beware of the prices! Everything is freaking expensive! A 1000krona is about £8 and hardly anything is under a thousand krona... meals 2 to 3 to 4 thousand per course!

Foooooooood

The cutest postcard ever!

There were a few setbacks like the horse riding being cancelled last minute :( ; driving around for a total 5 hours to chase the northern lights but ended up only seeing a very very faint green strip in the sky (LOADS of stars though). And yes whenever you're never any water, especially in the shower it STINKS like rotten eggs!

This is what the horrible smell looks like (Geysir)

Long story short I freaking LOVED it! Would even class it as one of the best trips I've ever taken and here's why:

The BLUE LAGOON

Yes, everyone goes there. And yes it is magical. More so probably in winter when there's minus degrees and snow on the ground/mountains surrounding the lagoon. The seconds you have to spend in the freezing cold in bikinis just make the hot water even more incredible, plus the steam on the water. And yes the water Is milky blue :) And the lagoon is HUGE. At first I was a bit gutted when the only time available was at noon, that's the busiest time and reading some reviews about it I was expecting crowds and near impossible to move in the water etc. We did have to wait in the queue to get in for about 15mins but the lagoon itself is so big that everyone kind of disappeared in it, especially if you went a little bit further from the immediate entrance.

I took the photos with my new phone, no special waterproof case or anything... Mr. Special FREAKED OUT :D He was so tense "What if you drop it blah blah blah". But the thing is I'm not generally clumsy, and why all of a sudden I would start dropping my phone in there? Yes I know stakes are higher since it is in water but it was all good :)

Outside the building where the water is freezing

And another memorable moment has to be Mr. Special voluntarily paying about £20 for a panini at the café :D I told him it was hella expensive, especially at the Blue Lagoon café, but he only realised just HOW expensive it was a little later :D And he won't shut up about it and tells everyone who dares ask about our trip.

Ok loads of more pics to finish this post

New phone and contract

For some reason the image in my head was that the new iphone 7 is HUGE compared to my old 4?4s?5? I don't even know which one I had :D but as soon as I touched it I knew I had to get it. It wasn't that much bigger (I'd probs only seen the plus versions and samsung galaxy phones that are near tablet sizes).

That same night I went and bought my new rose gold beauty :) Aaaand I freaking love it! Even started using Instagram and whatsapp. Aaaaand got a phone contract meaning I have plenty of data that doesn't instantly drain my credit :)

But getting that contract omg... I wanted the biggest data allowance at the smallest monthly price. So to do that they gave me a brand new phone :D Again :D some LG one, looks quite good actually. All seemed to be going well, got my number transferred (my number is so GOOD!) but they couldn't find my address -.- there are a couple of different ways to write it down, because their system wants the house nr and street name. But we live in a flat! meaning the flat number is the first number (and I cant just forget that and just put house number bc then the mail would go to someone else probs). Whatever it is always a pain and I'm sure some of my mail goes to the house with the same number as our flat  :D

And then couldn't set up a direct debit because Natwest doesn't put account nr on cards... Security etc blahblahblah. To me, who has nonexistant credit history/score, that meant that the system classed me as shady :D and since it is a phone contract (cheaper than sim only) I had to pay £100 deposit (to prevent me running away with the phone never to be heard of again). But I will get it back in three months... And now this is helping my credit as well so no biggie. Plus now I can turn my data on whenever and wherever :)

And the advisor who I spoke and offered my deal was genuinely nice (he was new so had to double check thing with his manager) and I didn't feel like I was hassled or got a worse deal than I could've etc. I hope :D

Estonian xmas party

As I had to spend my first Christmas away from home :( I decided to submerge myself into Estoniannes even only for just one night. Hence the official Estonian Christmas party in London.

When we got there half an hour later than the official start, but there was still half an hour left for the entertainment program to begin, the main room was already full! :O So we were forced to go into the second, brightly lit room where the buffet and kids santa corner was. The only real downside to that was the fact that we kind of missed the whole entertainment all together... We could see the stage through the wide open doors but couldn't really hear what was going on...

As soon as we sat down we went to grab some (proper) food, yum :) to me at least :D Mr. Special whined about nearly every single thing on the plate :D Therefore the bigger my surprise later at the food shop stall where he went full loco and bought two carrier bags full of stuff (brown lemonade?!?!). But hey I got to eat my moose sausage sandwiches for the next week so I was great. He also partook in a little raffle and won a home styling magazine that was 3 years old? Pointless...

And that was about it... I'm not disappointed with the night (omg I even saw someone there from Aber!) but I wish we could've been sat in the main room with the stage to be able to enjoy the night even more plus maybe had someone else to talk to as well...

Remember remember

the 5th of November...

yes I do realise it's actually the end of December... Wow does time fly fast or what?!

So for the first time in a couple of years the 5th November fireworks have fallen on my day off :) Which meant I can actually go to the main display :) Last year we had to go to the local school's one a day earlier.

We were prepared, as this was the official town's bonfire night we expected a lot of stalls etc, something to do. We finally found the food queue :) hot dogs, burgers etc. Mucked about a little bit beforehand in the bar queue and then kind of decided to split and I went to join the food queue, stepped (maybe a little rudely) in front of a lady with a buggy. Hey we got there at the same time just from different directions.. Waited ages... About twenty people in front of us... Until we noticed that something's weird with the burgers being handed out... they were in hot dog rolls... and we hadn't seen proper hot dog sausages for a while now...

And guess what. We got the LAST burger!!!! WTF there was still about twenty people behind us waiting for the same thing. Ever heard of announcing? (now I felt especially sorry for the lady behind me...). Who invites a whole town to a bonfire night and only provides food for the first half hour? The main display an hour away and crowds still coming... Someone made a booboo.

Then the last hour we just waited in the pitch dark... for the train to go past. We were at the rugby pitch right next to the tracks and fireworks would interfere with train service so had to be planned for the opportune moment. There was like one stall selling crap but that was it, not even music or a big BONFIRE! All of a sudden that little school's bonfire night last year seemed to be much better value...

But when the fireworks finally started WOW. One of the best I've seen definitely, seemed to go on for ages and the crowed really loved it as well, making woooooooooouu sounds for the big bangs :) I was not expecting that level of professional fireworks :D
