Lowest low

The past couple of months have been rough... Mainly because I'm just not happy with myself and what I'm doing, which pretty much is sleeping most of the day while the rest of the time I'm worrying about all the assignments and essays and exams etc etc. Note worrying in my head and not actually doing them til the last minute. And that creates stress, a lot of stress, that I am to be blamed for myself. Yes the workload is bigger this year but it isn't impossible to do.

I really felt it getting to me after I'd handed my diss in (4 minutes to spare til the deadline - gosh formatting took hours man). I knew I could've done so much better. I had all these ideas and thoughts in my head that I'll write about but when I finally got down to writing about them, they just seemed pointless or not worth anything to my dissertation + I had some last minute errors popping up meaning that I had more cause to panic and stress... But I did it. It was handed in on time and the next week or so Mr.Special had to endure my constant bad mood and whining and crying (true story) of how I'm even ashamed of giving that diss in coz it was just that bad... The fact that my supervisor had given me really good marks for the meetings did not help at all... I just felt that I've let myself and him down...

Things just spiralled from there really, I was in too bad of a mood to really go to my lectures unless I had to (tests in French yay). I have/had mixed emotions about all of this coming to a rapid end. On one hand yay it'll be finally over and I can relax again but on the other hand: the hell am I supposed to do now??? I haven't applied to any proper jobs and leaving Aber to get the same job somewhere else seems pointless too... So I'll stay?!?!? But in the deepest part of my heart I do not want to stay, although I do like my job and the people there + they are hinting at a chance to get more responsibility :D But in reality it'll still be the same job I'll just spend more freaking time there...

Can I just go back to Corsica or Paris and do nothing without feeling bad about it???????

Yeah... Cool story

The curious tale of a loo roll

So one day Mr. Special went yet again out and about for his errands. He must've been gone for about 20 minutes when he stormed back in the flat holding a single loo roll in his hand accompanied with a puzzled face: "Did you put this loo roll outside our door????"

Obviously I hadn't, since I'm not a crazy person, although one could argue that jumping out of dark corners to scare the bejesus out of him is not something a sane person does... not as frequently as me at least... Obviously he didn't believe me because sometimes I tell tales to him and snicker when he falls for them. He then compared the pattern on the new roll against the ones we had since I already had an amused face that could mean that it was indeed me behind all of this. Needless to say the patterns did not match. I had been cleared :)

Maybe someone dropped it while they were carrying their shopping in? I did hear someone in the corridor 5-10 minutes ago? "No!!! It was deliberate, someone is trying to say that I'm shit or something!" and he was genuinely worried that this was an act of vandalism against him.. So he actually went to confront the probable culprit - the guy upstairs who has been known to occasionally empty a fire extinguisher on someone else's door (when it was not on fire), or pretend to have been unconscious while his friend frantically taps on his neighbours' doors for help...

Turns out that he had been sick all day and sending a malicious message through a loo roll had been way too much for him that day... Mr. Special still cast some suspicious looks out the window in hopes of catching someone trying to run away with loo rolls or something to explain this but in the end he had no other choice than to accept my initial theory that someone was carrying a load of stuff in, including a couple of loose loo rolls and dropped one without noticing...

PS! it was a better loo roll that we have in the house :D
PPS! He actually shook the sick man's hand and passed his disease onto me!!!!!!!

ITB 2015

This year our course had a chance to go to the ITB in Berlin, which is the World's Leading Travel Trade Show. Every country was there with a stand to sell themselves as a destination. Some exhibitors were huge taking up half a hall with multiple stands and businesses representing them (Greece), others were small (France what up?) and others were tiny (Liechtenstein). There were free regional wine/cheese/beer/snack/chocolate tastings, not to mention celebratory cake :) Besides all the country representatives, there were loads of other businesses related to tourism, either promoting their product(s) or finding potential clients or employees. Also, there were multiple lectures given on current issues in tourism. It took about half an hour to walk from one end of the exhibition halls to the other...

Highlights for the common person to go there were definitely the souvenirs you could get :D Free stuff is what dreams are made of, right? The best thing was the opportunity to get real on the spot printed out photos taken of you  (Korea, Ecuador). And not to mention a card with your photo on, sitting on the seat of a Lufthansa plane, that looked like a proper staff-member ID :D

One day to visit is not enough, really, you miss so many things because at first you're just in  awe of the massiveness of it. Another day, at least is needed to fully explore every corner of it and talk to all the people about their destinations etc :) I hope that I'll get to go back next year or the year after that on public visiting days, because this year we went on the days it was open to business etc people. So most of the stands had just tables where proper business meetings took place and I personally felt kind of out of place, especially as everyone kept asking for my business card :D. It would be interesting to see what they come up with when they have to attract a common Joe from the street to buy a holiday :) Already for business people there were various local entertainment, from dancing to massage, but I expect it to be even grandiose on public days :)

Just WOW is what I remember and the desire to go back :)

Solar eclipse

'twas my B-day!!!! :) yay :D Got up early... wayyyy to early. Then we made our way up to the Arts Centre for the peak time. It was dimmer than usual but I was a bit disappointed :( I didn't see more than a quarter of the sun covered... If I ever upload my pictures on the computer I will show you :D There were loads of people there though, with their sheets of paper, special masks, cardboard boxes etc etc, so I didn't really get to the special glasses to see the sun :( It's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to ;D Then the next day I saw a couple of photos on facebook, taken in Aber that had loads of the sun covered. Like how???? Where??? When??? WHy me no see it??? :(

The evening we went to the best restaurant ever in Tal-y-bont. The Black Lion Hotel. OMG The duck there is to die for. Literally! I dream of that food :D

Last year I thought of making a tradition of saying what happened in the world this year on my birthday... well a bit late now innit... umm..let's think.

  • Edgar Savisaar was suddenly taken to hospital.
  • 4 days later a plane crashed to the French Alps.

If I try to google it now it is just the solar eclipse that comes up :D
According to astrology, I should have an eventful year ahead now :)

Timetable from hell

Is is just me or is the beginning of a semester always incredibly stressful???

Yeah... halfway through the semester and just now do I get around to writing about my timetable :D one lecture has already finished :D + the title is a bit exaggerating.. but hey ho!

Monday

10.00 Grammar - I've missed the last three lectures because it is just so hard to force myself to get up + I never do my homework and am too scared to show up without it ;(

17.00 Marketing seminar in the other campus - do you see that huge gap????? What am I supposed to do in between? swimming :) :D no but seriously I hate that huge gap. The seminar itself is alright, not too much work :) mainly doing posters etc. I don't understand the fascination of this uni to make us do posters all the time.

No possibility to go to work on a Monday...

Tuesday

11.00 Dissertation practical (only a couple of times) - doing things on SPSS that are way advanced fo me just yet and even if I understand them and think oooh I'll do that, I forget them later anyway :)

now this is a gap I can work with ;)

13.00 Dissertation lecture - The last lecture had a full on argument between the teacher and some arrogant kid. I wished I had my popcorn with me :D The kid had just realised that 10,000 words is it. literally! Reference list and title and appendices. the whole 9 yards. "Why are you telling us this so late?!?! Everyone's nearly finished, due to the milestones and now we have to re-do EVERYTHING!!!!"
The lecturer: "I'm pretty sure I've mentioned his before, btw hands up who's nearly finished with their diss?"

not a single hand raises

The kid: "But the milestones.... blahblahblah"

The lecturer: "Yeah I know what the milestones say but I'm asking who is actually near enough finished?"

still no one..

The lecturer: "So basically it's only your problem..." to the kid

this was followed by some more stupid arguments and ppl asking if they can put tables in as pictures etc. Like seriously how many words are you gonna gain by doing that???? And to the lecturers defense he had defo said it before because it wasn't a surprise to me or the ppl sitting next to me... I'm so happy I decided to go to that final lecture :)

18-20 Russian :) Yeap I've finally got round to taking a Russian class after 4 years of contemplating this :D

No possibility to work on Tuesdays

Wednesday

12.00 Listening
13.10 Pilates fitball - the bouncy balls are the best :)

worknight :)

Thursday

10.00-13.00 Tourism Development and Planning - we got the exam questions last lecture, the pressure is on.... 3 hours is too long for this theoretical class...

16.00 Translation
17.00 Oral - this is way better now since the teachers swapped their subjects :) I might even be enjoying it a little bit :D

No possibility to work on Thursdays

Friday

13.10-15.00 - Tourism Marketing lecture - quite enjoying this one :)

can't work Friday nights since I'm working Saturday mornings :D And I can't cope with that :D

The reason why I hate this timetable because it is scattered all over the place!!!!

But it's all coming to an end soon ;)

Taking stock vol 2

I thought it was time to do another one of these :)

Making : up half of the things I've done regarding to my dissertation... (I will finish it on time, not a month before ;) )

Cooking : philadelphia cheese muffins, even bought a special muffin tin for that :)

Drinking : water, and cherry coke, because Mr. Special still doesn't understand me when I say cherry coke is forbidden in this flat!!!!! (or he pretends to forget). I blame him :D Ooooh and I've discovered Capri sun too :)

Reading: My California, well trying to read it. It isinteresting, but lately all I seem to have time for is stressing about all the uni work and lying on the sofa doing absolutely nothing because of it...

Wanting: for my dissertation to be written already! At one point I seriously considered bullying Mr. Special into writing it for me :D

Looking: forward to the trip to Berlin next week with our course!!!! We're going to one of the biggest travel trade shows! :) Exciting!

Playing: Simpsons Tapped Out, Hayday and Sims (2) :D I still play the candy crush, pets and heroes blahblah but I've become stuck on those levels for too long so I've sorta given up coz it seems impossible to win. Also, we paly quiz games on playstation 3, like national geographic ones and buzz.

Wasting: time... big time... I'm two milestones behind with my dissertation. And what do I do all day??? A big fat NADA

Sewing: my shirts still... maybe I should buy more quality clothing that have less of that type of problems?

Wishing: that I'd know what to do after graduation :D

Enjoying: going to pilates fitball :D Seriously recommend that, the ball is a lot of fun!

Waiting: for a miracle to happen and me getting a gush of inspiration and writing up my dissertation: that means the last day before the deadline lol :D

Liking: that all the French teachers swapped their subjects :D I believe it is much better (and challenging) now :)

Wondering: why I can't be a normal person and sort out my life...

Loving: Mr. Special for just about everything :D
Hoping: that I will get a superawesome job after graduation (yeah I want it to fall onto my lap)

Marvelling: some people who have already finished their dissertation (HOW???). They must really have their life together :D

Needing: a plan for the future

Smelling: Flowers :) it's daffodill season + we bought other flowers as well, now there are flowers everywhere :)

Wearing: pyjamas... what? It's still early(ish)!

Following: blogs

Noticing: that the carpet under outdoor shoes needs some serious hoovering... :D

Knowing: that there will be a (partial?) solar eclipse in the UK on my birthday!!!! :) :) I've never seen one before

Thinking: how to justify my procrastination to my dissertation supervisor...

Feeling: lazy... stressed... tired... but also happy :D I don't know, woke up with a good feeling (I have big plans of doing some of the homework today :D)

Bookmarking: blogs and jobsites...

Opening: books just to close them again coz me have no timey... Seriously why do I even go to bookstores anymore. I have a whole boxful of books demanding to be read...

Giggling: while watching cat videos. There was a whole tv-show dedicated to those yesterday :D

Feeling: the warmth of the sun and can't wait it to be summer already!

Watching: The Originals, Vampire Diaries, The Challenge: Battle of the Exes 2, and Home and Away - this is a seriously shortened list of what I've been watching over the past couple of years :D Coz now I have a tv, which means: The Walking Dead, Dance Moms, Little Women LA, NCIS, The Real Desperate Housewives: Beverly Hills

Listening: to my Estonian radio morning program during the day still... mostly when I play Sims :D

oh and I got this awesome tag from here:
