As I have mentioned before I went to a holiday in Dubai. As it was more of a culture trip than lying on the beach getting some sun it was absolutely amazing. Would go back anytime! Shame the 7 days passed by so quickly tho! Saw all the major sights, Burj Khalifa, Burj al Arab, the world's biggest shopping centre etc.
Anyhow, not gonna talk about the sights, as everyone can read about them online or go and see themselves. What I wanted to write about are the things that left me puzzled.
Firstly, why on earth do people go on a tourism trip which includes sightseeing if they complain about walking? Like seriously, if you wanna sit down all day then take the package that only has hotel and you can lie next to the pool or go to the beach. You seriously didn't expect that when we do some sightseeing you wouldn't have to walk 50 meters? So during the longer days people were complaining and complaining and .... complaining. And I'm not trying to be mean, but if your physical shape is not fit enough for a trip like that maybe you would be better off staying at home.
Secondly, people taking pictures constantly, and when I say constantly I mean constantly. One lady literally experienced the trip through her camera. I might be weird, but who is going to watch all those pictures? And she kept taking pictures through the bus window even when they came out crap, like why? And what is the point of taking 10 pictures of the same thing? If you get a good one, stop it! Enjoy the present and the atmosphere.
And the thing that left me absolutely amazed: safari day. The cars had 6 spaces, so I was in one car with random people, of who 2 were just on their own and one family with a young child, about 7ish I think. One single guy sat in the front next to the driver, one single woman in the middle row and then the mum and dad and I was left in the back with the child. Now, I like children, but hey, I did not pay to babysit a stranger's child for a day. The mum sat in the middle so she could take pictures of everything. And the funniest thing, the driver asked who speaks English, silence, as I was at the back with all the noise I didn't really hear so asked what did he ask and said that I can. So he talked in English and everyone understood most parts, but there were things they didn't and wanted me to translate - translate what, if I can't hear it to the back of the car? So then we had a short stop and I asked if I could change seats with the mum or dad so that I could hear the driver and translate if needed. Heeeelllll no, the mum wanted to take pictures and as the dad was foreigner he claimed not to understand the driver so refused to sit at the back -.- Finally made it to the safari and those who don't know, it's crazy, you just hold on the the car as driver rallys there so guess what happened! The girl became scared and clinged to me, like literally, squeezing my arm to hold on. And the mum, ofc, was taking pictures, while saying that nothing comes out as the drive was bumpy as hell. So why on earth do you keep taking the pictures if they are useless? I was literally blown away of their behaviour. Was it really too much to ask and think that a parent should sit by their young child?
One funny things too: at the top of the Burj Khalifa as I was wandering around on my own, at some point I heard a guy saying something but as he was with his friend I assumed they were talking to each other. Then realised that the guy asked to take a picture with me, because he thought I'm beautiful and liked me. Needless to say, I was surprised, but agreed, because, why not? If that makes someone happy, right? But then he asked if I want a selfie with my phone and I refused, because I was still surprised and didn't know what to do, so kinda panicked :D but also had an old phone that wasn't really meant for selfies. later regretted my decision tho, as it would have been a interesting story to tell :)
So to the guy, who took a picture with me on top of the Burj Khalifa, feel free to share the photo with me :P
By the way, I love shoes so left one suitcase almost empty hoping the biggest shopping centre would be a shoe heaven and I will find loads of nice ones. I did not :D bought two bags instead :D
Overall, the trip was lovely, enjoyed the nice weather and the people! So nice to discover another culture :) Expo will be in Dubai soon, so should go back at some point, as it develops so quickly there - would be interesting to see what has changed.
