Plans, plans, plans

Usually I do not like to reveal my plans before it is confirmed that they will happen - it's probably the fear of failing and if other people know that I want to do this or applied for a job there they immediately want to know what happens and expect the best, and if I don't get the job I just feel twice as bad as I would when I were the only one knowing about it.

So about two weeks ago I saw an internship offer on facebook in the estonians in france group page (see being part of those groups is beneficial from time to time). A company was looking for french-estonian translators, wow, too good to be true was my first thought. After checking out their homepage for the hundreth time I finally decided to go for it, did a very minimalist CV (because I have no previous translation experience and all the shop work duties were irrelevant in my opinion) and wrote them a letter in french... And they answered the next day!!!! OMG they wanted to do an interview with me, needless to say I was scared as hell, in French!!!! omg omg omg what if I blow it?????

The day came and about 10 minutes before the interview (on Skype) a strange number called my phone. It was them, apologizing that they have no internet and could we take a raincheck, obviously I've never spoken French on the phone and that came as a total surprise so after a couple of sorries could you say that again I got the message. Hanging up I thought rats now I blew it, she understood that my French is really bad and doesn't want me anymore :'( But luckily for me it wasn't the case and about ten minutes later she said that her internet had come back and we could do the interview if I wanted to. Hell yeah I'd already prepped for it - wrote down my introduction :D :D :D

Previously she had asked me download a software that would allow me to see her computer screen, and after setting that up she started by introducing the company - international real estate portal that I would have to provide translation to then. All I could say at this point was yeah, oui, hmmm... no questions, to be honest I didn't really understand much :D then she showed me the translator tool they work with and basically how to use it. After a little exercise (nailed it! :)) we talked about me: why did I choose Corsica etc etc. Gor ro show her that I'm not completely useless in French :D and the day after she sent me a confirming e-mail that their offering me an internship - if I can get the internship agreement signed from my uni.

Now that's the hard part :( because my stupid uni is on a freaking easter break!!!! Told them that and now all I can do is hope that they're willing to wait for that long :)

Wish me luck!

Visitors

Two of my friends from Aber came over to see me for a couple of days :) Went to Ajaccio to see them, took my time getting ready and had to hurry to catch the train. Obviously I'm a moron and decided not to remember my pin to buy tickets or anything for that matter -.- great start... luckily I had my french card with me that should've had about 10 euros on it so got my return ticket bought, not a major disaster but still wthell am I going to do now????????????? I use my card practically every day and now for the life of me can't remember my pin - I was planning to do some clothes shopping while in a bigger town... :( Luckily for me I didn't throw the paper with the pin that needs to be destroyed away but kept it and on Friday went to the bank and got my card unlocked - if you didn't know then you can insert your pin 3 times, then the card will be blocked but after that if you go to an atm it'll give you another chance to enter your pin and if you're right that 4th time (only in an atm) the card will work again :) Major disaster averted this time :)

In Ajaccio we spent most of the day on the beach, could've gone swimming but the water was a tad cold, we regretted not swimming afterwards. Nevertheless, got a nice tan now and didn't burn :) well my skin was a bit red but that's normal. Went to Napoleons Birth House - was a horrible guide-translator :D I just can't translate for my life :D haha :D I can understand what it means but ask me to say it in a different language oh no! Can't do it :D (And I have 2 translation exams ahead of me....) Got the last train back (half 4 -.-) to Corte (Körr had trouble getting a discount train ticket, I had given her my student card to get it and she managed to give it to the ticket officer as a method of payment so both of them were like wtf this doesn't work etc - i usually just flash it in front of them and only say where I want to go all the talk done, she managed to get herself into a conversation in a language she doesn't speak :D)

At the evening they wanted to see the nightlife. And it was a great night out (I'm not a huge party animal if you haven't noticed before). We found a lounge that I've never been to before (like that's hard to do ;)) with seating outside and blue lights club vibe inside. At first we sat outside just talking and catching up and then it got a bit chilly so we went inside and danced a bit and watched the frenchies dance and enjoy themselves.

We came to a conclusion that it's more laid-back here than in the UK. In the UK it's all about finding yourself a one night stand and kissing each other etc... Here everyone just wants to have a good time, guys were fooling around, dancing with girls and each other all in good fun, we were invited to dance too and guess what no one touched our buts or wanted to rub themselves against us or anything else that is so common when going out in the UK. One guy made a pass to my friend asking if she wanted to try the french kiss :D but as soon as she said no, he backed off and danced on with the group (didn't strop off and didn't pursue on aggressively either). When we started leaving jokingly he tried his luck again, another no, poor lad :D but he didn't feel like he failed or something. It was all in good fun and everyone were enjoying themselves and no one was creepy or pushing themselves onto girls to make them feel awkward or uncomfortable. Everyone parted as friends and without kissing anyone :D

The day after I took them to the mountains. I'm not fit at all :D but I wasn't too bad I hope :D After a couple of hours it started raining :( so we took refuge under a tree. The rain didn't last long luckily and we went on for a bit. Walking was the activity of the day.

On the third and last day we went by the river, sunbathed a bit, one crazy went swimming - the water was freezing cold!!!!!!! and then strolled around the town a bit. Tried a cake that was baked on a leaf - you don't eat the leaf!!! the lady told us. Something new for me too :) And it was time for the to go with the last train (6 PM) to catch their flight 10 AM the next morning. This is where the public transport in Corsica is absolutely horrible!!!! :(((( They spent their night walking to the airport from the closest train station to it because the airport closes for the night and students can't really afford hotels 50 euros a night minimum. They made it though :) Although I must say I was a bit worried and thought to myself where they were now throughout the night. A bit extreme to my liking but there were two of them.

Playlist

I started thinking about this post a couple of days ago and I was like oooohhh shhhh... I don't really have any new music to share with y'all because I started listening to my Estonian radio morning program again and got all my music from there so didn't really know any song names etc that stood out :D But then I started youtube'ing stuff and voilà I hope you like it:

First the newest that I discovered thanks to a friend that came to visit (they just left :'((((( )
Chet Faker - I'm Into You

I've heard the next song a couple of times before and thought to myself I should look it up, never did but now remembered it out of the blue - half stumbling upon it :)
I do love remakes of old songs :)
Bastille ft Ella - No Angels

The next song is a typical top 40 my style music :) just fun :)
Rita Ora - I Will Never Let You Down

Every year I promise myself that I won't listen to any Eurovision songs before the actual competition but for some reason the Polish entry got my attention and I quite like it :P
Donatan ft Cleo - My Slowanie

And now the Estonian song that reminds me of my childhood - well late 90s :D I'm not actually sure if it is a new song or an old one but I've only now just heard it played and it has a good vibe to it that I like :)
2 Quick Start - Sulatab Su Kuumus Klaasides Jää

That's it for now folks :)
PS! My fave Beyonce song still isn't officially up :(

Ready for my holidays

Fresh out of my last test before the exams and I'm feeling good :) Although yesterday wasn't that succesful: I had my big french test that will tell me my level... oh boy, the first part wasn't too bad if you don't include the fact that the supervisor said 15 minutes left when I was only half through the written understanding exercises... whaat already. Obviously I went into turbo mood and rushed the answers from then soooo :D :D until 5 minutes was left and one of the students piped up and said HEY are you sure, because according to the testbook we should have another 15 minutes and guess what she was right :D :D So I had time to go double check my last answers (although I didn't really change any because I was too tired to concentrate properly).

This test was really formal - we had to go in with our letter of invitation and ID, then sit in our allocated seat (mine was closest to the radio - one of my fears was that I can't hear the question because on the internet test exercises the part where it says: "question 6" and the melody is awfully loud and the someone starts talking and you can barely hear it - wtfudge? The sheet infront of me had my name and D.O.B printed on it so all that I was allowed to do was tick the boxes. For me it was like the test you normally see in American movies - just a sheet with columns of ABCD and rows of question numbers and you just tick tick tick boxes :D exciting, I've never done a test like that. Obviously we had the question booklet as well that was previously sealed with a sticker - we had to break it ourselves - proper. Later that sheet will be checked by the computer and you had to tick every single box even if you didn't know the answer because if you leave one box unticked the computer will stop checking it from there and assumes you stopped the test, so you might lose a lot of points.

The second part of the big test was written production (sounds better in french) and that was awful :'( OMG from the first assignment onwards - an invitation to my marriage, oh shit I don't know how to write an invitation properly.... Didn't do the last exercise and the one before that was awful as well... and the one before that - I think I was a bit off-topic :( well I don't expect great results from that :( which is shit because next year I have a French module that requires a 2000 word essay, and if I can't write then.... yay for me -.-

Today I had the phonetics test and considering I've only been to like three classes :D I did quite well, I hope, well the aim is to get more than 10 points - that's a pass and I've gotten my points - all I care about.

On my way back I saw a guy from my translation class and he said he had my homework. Awww yeah I thought I'd never see it again because the last class was cancelled because of the strike. Not too good news though :D as always my french was awful, but good effort he'd written :D omg what on earth am I going to do in the exam when I can't consult any dictionaries :D Fun times, the french-english one wasn't too bad - 15 points, that gives me a little hope that maybe I won't completely fail the exam - the texts to translate will obviously be a bit easier then the ones you get to do at home.

Ooooh btw if I understood correctly the tourism translation teacher asked us (me and the other erasmus) if we want to do french to english translation in the exam. Helll yeaaaaaah because her texts are ridiculous!!!! You read the english version and think who the hell wrote this? But I have a couple of weeks to prepare myself for the 3 exams I'll have at the end of May.

Now party time coz I got peeps coming over!!! yaya :)

Nearly done

So sad :( this academic year has gone by so quickly and as usual with me I haven't grabbed every opportunity possible and not used my full potential :( I am trying though, occasionally...

The end of the semester has actually come quite surprisingly - my exams are at the end of May but lectures are slowly finishing one by one :S what am I supposed to do here til then? The past couple of weeks I've been busy, done my exams, homework (translations and learning a corsican story by heart - still not quite sure what it's about :/) and I just couldn't be bothered to drag myself out to enjoy the sun - see the other aber girl has left now so there isn't actually anyone who would force me to do something - although yesterday at the supermarket (where you always see someone you know - I once literally tried to avoid on guy just because I didn't want him to see what crap I was buying lol, that was funny because I had to be at the supermarket longer than needed all just because I'm a socially awkward penguin) one of my acquaintances actually asked - where have I disappeared to - yay someone cares :D Also the fact that I can't be bothered to top up my french number that now has been blocked doesn't help being sociable... oh well...

Anyway the summer has crept up on me, it's soooooooooo warm outside already!!!!! I hope to go by the river tomorrow to catch some sun (hopefully not burn, some people already have a nice tan - jeeesh I should get out more...).

I have a huge french test in two weeks that will tell me my level... hopefully it's not too low lol because I'm already really dreading next year because I don't think my french has improved that much and my tutor will be mad at me :D

Talking about next year: we had to do our provisional registration and everything did not go smoothly :D quite usual for Aber in my opinion, see the tourism course had been moved from IBERS department to the school of business and management in my second year and now the system on which I had to confirm my provisional registration had a big error : You should've previously taken this module if you want to take that one next year!!!!! Closer inspection showed that I had taken the prerequisite in my first year but it had a different code since it was in a different department and furthermore it was a core module so I couldn't change it even if I wanted to :D Rebecca sent some e-mails asking about and explaining everything properly and basically got nowhere, I sent a vague panic letter I don't know what's wrong, help and voila by Friday my provisional registration was somehow completed but Rebecca's wasn't :D Oh aber, they always assume that we are stupid and don't know what to do if you give them too much information about the problem, so I always dumb it down when I have a problem with something forcing them to look into it and figure out what the problem is - even if I know what it is ;) Good news too - for the first time I actually have 2 french optional modules meaning I can coose!!!! wow, one of them being language of business that was optional (no other choice though) last year and the second: travel and litterature in france. I took the second one although it looks like far more work but it is in semester 1, meaning I can take a tourism optional module in semester 2 and keep my semester workloads balanced.
